Over The Crowsnest Pass to Waterton Lakes National Park.

On the road again, our destination Waterton Lakes National Park via The Crowsnest Pass.  After leaving Cranbrook highway 3 runs alongside The Kootenay River, and from Elko picks up the Elk River as far as Sparwood where we turn east and start going towards the pass over into Alberta.

Weather changing ahead.

Here we are at the top, its not actually raining but very gloomy.
Running along the pass before the gentle drop down to the prairie, the pass is just under 1400 metres high but was an easy drive as we were already above a 1000 metres at Cranbrook.

Arriving at Crooked Creek RV Park just outside the park gates - the creek is really crooked!

Where the prairie meets the mountains. The weather here is a lot cooler than BC. 25c down to 10/12c spring hasn't started no buds on the trees, most of the grass still flattened from the snow, the chap here at the park was telling us they had 2" of snow last week.
There are a lot of these crocus coming up with the new grass, gives some colour to the mostly brown grass.

Harlequin Duck.

Plains Buffalo

Lower Waterton Lake and below Driftwood Beach

Big Horn Sheep, lots of these walking around the village.

We will explore more tomorrow and hopefully we will get some sunshine.
