Kootenay Lake and The Selkirk Mountains.

A hike along an old disused railroad above Nelson, gives some amazing views across the western arm of Kootenay Lake and the Selkirk Montains. No rain and very little cloud today, temperature 16c when we started the walk at 1030am perfect walking weather.

Wait for me, my short fat hairy legs can't keep up.
The lake and town of Nelson.
A little further along the trail.

Back to about the starting point of the trail, sail boats on the lake. I think the mountain opposite is called
Toad Mountain. Correction- just found out I was standing on Toad Mountain when I took the photo.
A piece of useless information now together we 2 photos of some recent history of Nelson, which by all accounts helped make this town the tourist attraction it is today.  Back in the 1960s a lot of flower children escaping the Vietnam draft settled here in the woods around Nelson.  These stone circles are where they grew their marijuana.
It would seam that some of the crazy ideas from that period have been put into good use here in Nelson.
