Fort Steele, Industrial & Farming Heritage.

Fort Steele can be divided into 3 sections, The Mounted Police Barracks, the Village itself and the rest which is all about the logging, mining, farming and railroad history.  In fact there is so much to see you could split this bit in to 2.

This monster was used in a coal mine, never seen one before.

This is a really interesting pice of industrial heritage, maybe one day it will be restored to working order.

We looked at one of these at the railroad museum in Prince George, huge piece of kit.

I understand the railroad never reached Fort Steele, the station and track were built to be used in the summer for trips on a steam train, it was in its shed so never got to se it.

Copper Vat from the old brewery.

Drag saw, with its own engine but can be belt driven from a tractor.

I just love these old steam engines.

Water monitor used at one of the local gold mines to wash away the side of a hill leaving 'they hope' the gold.

This was how you got from the railway station in Cranbrook to Forte Steele 18 kilometre journey, shake, rattle and roll.

Muskovy Duck the only native american duck and below a couple of really noisy turkeys

Loads to see in this part of the town, but I have held myself back and limited it to 3; (Enough here for a blog on its own)

I wonder how many of these machines were built you see them all over the world.

I have no idea what this is, at first we thought it maybe a bailer of some sort, a seed drill/dropper, a mystery?

We will be moving on, over The Crows Nest Pass into Alberta for the next blog.
