A hike up Sandy Hill, the back side of Oliver Mountain.

We had planned on doing the stamp mill trail from the ghost town of Fairview today, but not to be I'm afraid, at the Fairview end of the trail it passes through private property, permission to cross the private land has been withdrawn.
Plan B, down the White Lake road a little ways  and we will go up The Sandy Hill Trail, this is on the back side of Oliver Mountain.  The first part is very rough and steep.

Up and up on this old mining trail now used by ATV and hikers.

 Overlooking Oliver Reservoir.

Wonderful mountain grassland, great views in every direction
dropping down into a meadow with a small lake.

Looking across the pond - not big enough for a lake - in my part of England these ponds are called Tarns.

We turned round to go back at this hill top, we had walked for an hour by this point.

A couple of hundred metres from the beginning of the trail we came upon this herd of cows and little ones, or so we thought , bringing up the rear were 3 or 4 bulls , we were hiding in the trees by this time - don't think my bullfighting skills are up to much.
