Dawson City, The Yukon

What a place this is! In all our travels I don't think there is any where to compare with Dawson, In a category of its own.

From the Grand Theatre to the these buildings sinking into the permafrost.

These 3 buildings have been left by Parks Canada to show what happens when you build on permafrost without leaving an air gap between the floor and the earth.

This old building being renovated, they have jacked up the building and put these blocks under, they call it cribbing. the idea is to keep the heat from the building away from the earth. The depth of the permafrost from the surface varies but can be as little 40cm.

This is one of Dawsons famous watering holes, no cribbing here, its original

Not sure who's straight here, me, Ruth or the bar, its called the Pit. The floor is tilting- - really.

Paddle boat on the Yukon River.

This lovely building is the Manse for the church next door, I think this has been restored.

St. Andrews Church, No cribbage here, will they ever be able to rescue this building I wonder.

The weather has been wonderful all the time we have been in the Yukon, this is the temp. at 8pm, its now 11:15pm. the temp is 24c its still light, gets dark around midnight and light again by 3am. the northern lights have been seen for the last couple of nights, thats if you can stay up to about 1:30am. Will I make it?
