Alaska Highway, Day 5, Liard River.

Great start to the day only gone a few kilometers when we came on this fella, walking along on the side of the road, not a care in the world and alls good.

"If you can get rid of all these flies - I'l smile for your camera"

The condition of the road got worse every kilometer (did I comment a day or two ago about the good quality of the Alaska Highway - well I was a little economical with the truth)  The dust cloud is the camper in front.

Dropping down to Muncho Lake

Muncho Lake again, pic taken whilst we wait for the pilot car to take us through the next lot of road works.

This big fella's trying to hide.
We arrive at Liard River Lodge Camping after a short 117km drive which took 4 hours. This is the worst camping we have stayed at,
a real dump, its only saving grace its just across the road from the hot springs. Looking at the pic. it dosn't seem so bad, but it was really grotty.

The hot springs, you have to walk down a boardwalk for 700 meters to get to them.

They told me that sitting there would do me no end of good, ease the pains it my poor old back, loose a bit of weight, the temp. varied depending on where you happened to be in the water, at the top end it was around 50c. thats hot.  I don't think it worked. Thats the weight loss bit.

Ruth slowly sliding into the hot water.

Back at the Lodge we put some gas in the the beast, just enough to get us to Watson Lake with a bit to spare. At $1.56 litre I'm not going to fill it up, and the camping cost $39 for the night. What a rip off!
