The Hog's Back.

Today we are at The Hog's Back, a spectacular  section of the Rideau River.
Colonel By's Rideau Canal had to bypass this section of the river. The photo on the left shows the river flowing under the bridge to the falls and the one below going into the Hog's Back lock

The Rideau River flowing under the bridge and down the falls.

This was quite an amazing piece of engineering and continues to be, with the weight of water and ice in the spring break up testing it. Well worth it, Colonel By left a wonderful legacy.

A little rainbow showing amongst the spray.

A few metres to the west is the Rideau Canal.  Two Parks Canada guys waiting for a cruiser to come through the gates.

Now the hard bit, closing the gates. Got to be fit to work here.

Swing bridge opening, now in the 20th. century, electricity has replaced man power.

Out of the canal and off down the Rideau River.
