The Arboretum, Dow's Lake and the Hartwell Locks.

Every time we come to Ottawa, we always visit here, park the car at the Arboretum parking circle at The Experimental Farm, walk down the hill through the trees to the lake, and along the pathway by the side of the canal towards the locks, lovely walk.  This lake is in the middle of a city of 1m. people hard to believe. Down town Ottawa can be just seen on the top of the tree line left of centre.

Lotta ducks

We have just started on the canal part of the walk, to the left is Dow's Lake, The Rideau Canal continues centre right on its way through the centre of Ottawa and then into the Ottawa River.

Some of the magnificent trees.

This boat is waiting to enter the locks. The one below has just left the lock.

Coming through.

Operating the locks, it was very hot today over 30c with the humidity over 40, hard work.

Walking back along the canal.

Now wandering through the trees, some starting to change colour.

There are some big Willows scattered around.

I wonder how old this willow is, was it planted by Colonel By, maybe it was here when he was building the canal.

Part of the Arboretum is given over to a Hosta garden.
