Pinhey's Point, Historic Site, Ottawa

We have discovered another Ottawa Gem - Pinhey's Pointe, the remains of a 1000 acre farm from 1820. We read a brochure from the visiter centre titled Ottawa's Countryside and this was one of many places to visit around Ottawa. Up river from Ottawa about a 30km. drive. The photo above is the actual point, a spit of land jutting into the Ottawa River, you can't go onto it as its a little fragile, to many happy visitors walking all over it.

Interesting story.

The manor house built in various stages  from 1820 to 1849.  Now a museum, but just our luck, closed at the weekend until next May.

The outside kitchen, its believed it was connected to the main house by a covered wooden walkway.

Another view of the point.

Looking back towards the house from the dock, you can also see the barn and stables between the trees and the small building to the left and below is the ash house. All the ash from the fires was stored here to make soap and fertilizer for he vegetable garden.

This is all thats left of one of the original log cabins.

No idea what this cabin was used for, no chimney, perhaps just a tool shed.

Looking across the Ottawa River to the Quebec side, the long hill in the background is The Eardley Escarpment.

After leaving Pinhey's Point we had a drive around the countryside and came across this little scene.
