Langford Lake

Today we went for a walk along side Langford Lake, an easy trail mostly flat and just short of 2km before turning round and heading back to the car park. The interesting thing about this walk is the ducks on the lake, not as many as on Esquimalt Lagoon but all different.

The first part of the trail is on boardwalk and bridges.

End of the bridge/boardwalk and into the forest.

The trail in the forest on the south side of the lake, easy to walk, we followed this until we reached a boat launching place just before the end off the lake.

The trail carried on for awhile before ending on reaching private property, all the north side of the lake has homes with their own waterfronts.

Lake on one side this old railway line on the other, now disused The Esquimalt & Nanaimo Railway, I understand it only stopped running a couple of years ago but nature is taking it back.

And now for the birdy bit.  All these pics. were taken off the boardwalk, some of them at the very limit of my camera, but they are birds we haven't seen before.  The ones above are Common Mergansers.

Male and female Ringed Neck Duck.
Hooded Mergansers, we have seen these before but they are always along ways off, hopefully we will be able to see them a little closer.  and get some better photos.
