Cochishe County has two major valleys, The San Pedro River Valley to the west and The Sulphur Springs Valley to the east, with The Dragoon mountains between the two. To get from Benson in the west to Wilcox in the east you have to through the Texas Pass, unless of course you were Cochise or Geronamo they just went over the top. After visiting The Amerind Centre we carried on through the pass into The Sulphur Springs Valley to Pearce the site of an old gold and silver mine, now a ghost town.
The site of the gold and silver mine in Pearce.
We have seen quite a few ghost towns, mostly they are just foundations or buildings that have fallen down. Pearce is a bit unusual in that it has quite a few buildings still standing.
This ranch is on the Sulphur Springs side of the canyon, sort of thought it a bit different.
Back on the San Pedro side and a return visit to The St. David Monastery. Friday is bake day, lots of lovely sticky goodies for sale.
I think this must be a modern version of the cloisters, very restful just the place for a sticky bun and coffee.
The Bishops House.
couple of views of San Pedro Valley.
This photo was taken a couple of days ago when we had that hazy light, makes for a good sunset.
