Whiffin Spit Park.

Continuing our exploration of Sooke and area after lunch at Mums Cafe, soup and a brisket sandwich for Ruth and that great Canadian delicacy "Poutine" for me, we went along to Whiffin Spit, the piece of land jutting out into Sooke harbour protecting the harbour and sound from the Pacific Ocean.

Looking inland from the spit, the pic. below looking the other way through the opening into the Jaun de Fuca Straight and the Olympic mountains.

We think these are female Buffleheads all out for a leisurely swim.

Semipalmated Sandpiper,  a  bunch of them below messing about with the dead salmon.

Harlequin Duck and below doing what ever they do amongst the kelp.

Black Oyster Catcher, lots of these messing about at the waters edge.

Great Heron, Ruth says its a Great Blue Heron.  Why does it have a pink neck?

Back at the parking on the land end of the spit, looking across the strait no filters on the camera, turn round and take this pic. seconds later no filters, amazing difference in the light.

Back round again, getting as many photos as I can before the light changes.
