Top Of The World Highway into Alaska

Yesterday we had a very interesting and scary journey to Tuk Alaska.
On the ferry crossing the Yukon River to the start of the Highway. the two couples on their "Harleys" we kept passing each other all day, evan ate in the same restaurant in Tuk.

Gravel road and not bad condition

The sign says the two police forces are working together for our safety.

The US. side the population of 2 must be the 2 border officers.

The fun part of the journey, this went on for miles.

Eventually we get to the end of The Top Of The World and join up with The Taylor Highway, after a few miles we pull off for lunch.

Nice place, after lunch the Taylor climbed became very dusty and narrow,
lots of construction trucks who own the road - in other words - get out of the way. Very scary, no guard rails. the guide book for this road says its very challenging, I think the writer went to an English school  and learnt the art of understatement. No photos Ruth hanging on for grim death, no chance for photos.
We arrived in chicken filled up with gas and had an ice cream instead of a stiff drink. The Taylor changes to tarmac here and becomes more of a normal road
The views have been obscured with smoke for most of the journey, nothing serious lots of little fires making a lot of smoke.
Last photo, Top Of The Road on the Canadian side. We are heading in the direction of Valdez today.

  1. Here I thought you were scared of the bikers. The road is way scarier.
Didn't I read somewhere that it was called "Chicken", because they couldn't spell "Ptarmigan"?
