Out and about around Elk Island National Park

For the last couple of days we have been exploring Elk River National Park and the surrounding area.  The park itself is quite some think I think its the smallest of all the National Parks but it has everything, rolling hills, lakes , wetlands and prairie.
Looking through the woods to one of the lakes, sorry I forget which one? there are a lot, probably more water here than land.

A trail we walked as it passed by some wetland.

Astotin Lake taken from the trail No. 6

Lots of Buffalo grazing all over the park, big bull, this field was full of buffalo all bulls. When we passed by here Friday this field was full of cows with their young.
Walking by the side of some wetland and then into forest.

Coot playing in the reeds.

Beavers house, one of the rangers told us there is over a 1000 Beavers in the park, to date we have seen lots of these piles ow wood but sadly no Beavers.

On our way back to the pa
rking and cought  these reflections in the lake - what a view!

On Sunday we went for a walk on one of the trails here in Elk River Retreat. Lots of Marsh Marigolds along side the stream that runs through the retreat.
Love seeing old bits of machinery like this lying around.

After lunch today we went a few miles east on Highway 16 to THe Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village, the above photo is Goose Lake.

Looking across the lake to the village grain tower.

The Orthodox Church.

Interesting Bread Oven.
One more day here, will make one more visit to the park.
